Antique Easels

Antique Easels
The artists antique easel has been used to hold a canvas or panel since the ancient Egyptions around the first century. Monks started using the old antique easel type writing desks to help them paint their illuminated manuscripts. It wasn't until the 13th century that painting on antique easels started replacing murals and other forms of wall painting.
The antique easel as we know it today and easel painting, developed during the Renaissance period. Easel painting in an artists studio became an established art form and recognised painters as artists with individual styles.
We stock studio antique easels and gallery antique easels.
